Coils and pods are consumables. However good your device is, the coil is what actually vaporises the liquid, and it degrades with use — so this is the section you will come back to most often.

When to replace a coil

A coil is finished when the flavour turns muted, harsh or burnt, when vapour production drops, or when the pod starts spitting or leaking. For most people that is one to two weeks. Sweet, dark or heavily sweetened e-liquids caramelise on the coil and shorten its life considerably; lighter fruit and menthol liquids are much easier on them.

Getting more life from a coil

Prime a new coil before use — wet the wicking ports, fill the pod, and let it stand five to ten minutes so the cotton saturates fully. Firing a dry coil burns the wick immediately and there is no recovering it. Avoid chain-vaping a fresh coil for the first few minutes, and keep the pod topped up rather than running it near empty.

Matching the right part

Coils are not interchangeable between brands, and often not between devices from the same brand. Check the device name and the coil resistance printed on the old coil before ordering. Lower resistance (below 1.0ohm) means more power, warmer vapour and faster liquid use; higher resistance suits mouth-to-lung vaping and lower-wattage devices.
